Amazon Route 53 is a scalable and highly available Domain Name System (DNS) and Domain Name Registration service.

Route 53 can monitor the health and performance of your application as well as your web servers and other resources. Health checks work with DNS Failover to automatically route your website visitors to an alternate location to avoid site outages.

Route 53 organizes your DNS records into "hosted zones". A hosted zone (also called a "DNS zone" or "zone file" by some other DNS providers and software) contains all of the DNS records for a given domain name (for example, example.com) or subdomain (for example, subdomain.example.com).

When you want to get a new domain name, such as the example.com part of the URL http://example.com, you can register it with Amazon Route 53. You can also transfer the registration for existing domains from other registrars to Route 53 or transfer the registration for domains that you register with Route 53 to another registrar.

Resolver endpoints enable DNS lookups between your Amazon VPC and on-premises networks over VPN or Direct Connect. Inbound endpoints let your on-premises resources make queries against names mastered in AWS, such as Amazon Route 53 private hosted zones. Outbound endpoints work with forwarding rules to let the resources in your VPCs make queries against your on-premises DNS servers.

IP-based routing routes traffic based on the location of your users’ IP addresses that the traffic originates from. You can use IP-based  routing with public hosted zones.

CIDR collections are a collection of IP ranges in CIDR notation,  or CIDR blocks.

Policy records are used with traffic flow, and each policy record  routes DNS queries for a specified domain or subdomain.

The domain requests page lists the action type, such as turn on  auto-renew, for domains, the status of that action, and if you need to take  an action to complete a domains request.

Route 53 Resolver responds recursively to DNS queries from AWS  resources for public records, Amazon VPC-specific DNS names, and Amazon  Route 53 private hosted zones, and is available by default in all VPCs.
